Well, it looks like the Decision I posted about on Sat Aug 16 2008 might not have been the best decision. I decided to stay under the promise that I would extend the system I had worked on for 2 years to work for all the studies at the center. I guess the adage “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush” does not apply here somehow. So, I am on the job hunt for good positions in the Maryland I-270 corridor. sigh
Looks like my new boss changed his mind. Now, they want me to relearn Java, learn struts, debug their javascript, and rebuild the clinical study management system in their data collection architecture. Their data management system is not complet, and they have barely started on study management. Not to mention that their entire system if just a copy of a VFP data entry system which was a copy of a Clipper data entry system which was a copy of a DBase data entry system.
In my PHP based system, I could have gotten all the studies transitioned over in about 3 months since I had already created the necessary migration scripts. It will be a minimum of 6 months before they can even start work on something similar, not to mention they are still using a data model from the 1980s.
