Once again, towel|day is upon us. My children dutifully carried their towers with them as they journeyed outside. Sure, it was just to the pool, but some day they will read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and understand the significance.

Future and Past
Future: I got back late last night from php|tek 09. It was a good time overall, and I am glad I was able to attend. PHP is the future of the Web for the near time. I also managed to pick up a cute elePHPant mascot too.
Past: We decided to get out and do something as a family now that I have returned. Once we had the momentum, and the plan, we drove out to Hancock, MD and went fossil hunting. There is an exposed outcrop of Ridgeley Sandstone from the Devonian era there. All we found were brachiopods, but it was fun none-the-less. After hunting for a bit, went to check out the Sideling Hill Exhibit Center.
Afterward, a dip in the pool was very refreshing. Hooray for a long weekend!
php|tek09
I am currently among my 336 closest friends at php|tek09. It is a very interesting international collection. Unfortunately there is a significant difference in the definition of fun once php is removed.
Worth the Trek
The new Star Trek was worth seeing. (Disclaimer: I am a Trek fan, but not a rabid one. I do not have Spock ears or any props, but I do have the blue prints to the NCC-1701-D on my office wall.) As can be expected, the special effects were top notch. It is laced little hints from the original series and movies that make it awesome. It helps that I watched all three of the original seasons in the past year, so I was catching lots of clues. There were a few plot points that did not cohere exactly, but that is ok. I would not rate the movie as highly as TWoK, but it is up there with First Contact and The Undiscovered Country. This one is going to be added to my collection.
Anne turns 7
For Anne’s birthday we took her and a friend over to Earth Treks climbing wall in Rockville. It was a great time watching both of them progressively make higher climbs. The facility is nice. I think it is taller thanCornell’s wall, and it definitely has a lot more surface area. They also have room for having a birthday party there, which perhaps we’ll have to do for Drew next year.
New Pastor
Today we installed our new senior pastor! WOOHOO! Our church has been searching for over 3 years now so this is a great blessing and a great relief. It has also been great to begin to get to know him in the last 3 months.
Moved blog engines
So I moved off of ProjectSteveGuttenberg and onto WordPress. PSG had not been updated in almost 2 years and had some bugs (and not PHP 5.2 clean) so I wanted to make a switch. Hopefully before too long I will make a nice them of my own and link the gallery back in.
How to know when you’re getting old…
Drew is Two
SMACK!
Much to Greg’s satisfaction, I am going to try my hand at doing this blog thing. Let’s see how it goes. At least you can’t throw tomatoes at me…My contributions will mostly be random, strange and not very profound. Make you want to keep reading, doesn’t it? Well, at least hear my story for the day…
Ran a bunch of errands with the kids. Not sure if their equilibrium was off but today was not a good day to run several errands in a row. Have you ever seen a loony tunes cartoon where a cartoon character turns to run and runs smack into a wall? Anne totally did that today. Twice. Not sure how, not sure why, but SMACK! Even the post office guy behind the counter said, “whoa, I felt that.” The second time was at the library. As I was picking her up to comfort her, Andrew fell backwards off our wagon (yes, we bring our radio flyer wagon to the library)…I saw a librarian walking towards me and my wailing kids and thought she would shush us. She just smiled pityingly and walked on. *Sigh*
