The Slacker Speaks

Well, another long period of time has past and there are way too many things to update the world on. So I will start with the more important ones (not in order of importance).

  • In October I decided to switch to the Masters degree program. It fits a lot better with both the jobs I want to do when I finish, and also the lifestyle I want to enjoy with my family.
  • I updated the photoarchive core code and general theme. Hope you like it. Camille has added a bunch of more recent photos.
  • We went to visit my brother Jeff and his wife Amy for Thanksgiving. We rented a minivan with my parents and drove to Cincinnati, OH and back. Fun times. We were also able to spend some time with Camille’s aunt and uncle who live there. It was nice to meet them again (last time was at our wedding).
  • Drew is talking a lot more now. It is great when he says Daddy (he has said mommy for a while now).
  • Getting colder here…
  • I am reading Eldest by Paolini right now. Good book. Though the touches of newage neo-buddhism are not needed.
  • I am starting to learn up on AJAX to get some nice functionality into the projects I am working on. One of the tools I have built is now being used internationally. Woohoo!
  • That is all for now!

    The Great Parks

My Dad, Brother, and I are back (well, we have been back for a couple weeks now) from our “Backroads” biking trip between Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon, and Zion Canyon national parks. It was a good time. Zion is my favorite park of the group with its massive cliffs. Unfortunately I could not bike the entire route as I got tendonitis in my left knee. Slow recovery process. Worst part of the trip was the 77mile route from Bryce to Coral Pink Sands state park, with a 10-20mph headwind the entire way. 2005-12: Pictures now up.

    Another trip

Anne is constantly asking when we are going to leave to visit Grandma. Well, she will get plenty of hangout time with her! Off we go to RI this weekend for June’s wedding in Boston (Yes, I know Boston is in Mass.). Camille’s mom has graciously offered to watch the kids while we see some friends and go to the wedding.

    Hawaii and Cayuga

A lot has happened since Anne’s birthday. We traveled to visit Camille’s Dad and step-Mom in HI last month. We are really grateful that he has plenty of frequent-flier miles. I hope to put up a bunch of pics soon.

Also, this past Saturday I joined my Dad and rode (alomst) all the way around Cayuga lake. We took a longer, more scenic route and I totalled up 92.6 miles. Yes, I was a little sore the day after, but not too bad. Everything is feeling great today!

    3 Years Old

Anne turned a whopping three years old yesterday. She received a sum total of 3 balloons, one cookie, a life-preserver (thanks Poppy), a cooking set, and a bunch of plastic food items. I built her a refrigerator out of cardboard to go with the cardboard oven and microwave, so now she has somewhere to keep the plastic grapes cold. We are still waiting for the gift from Uncle Jeff who thinks that Anne is like the IRS (having it postmarked on her birthday).

    Snow Serpent

Last week our lawn was briefly attacked by a snow serpent before it melted back into the tundra.

We have had about a foot of snow here in the past 2 days. Lots of fun sledding with Anne. What monstrosity should I make next in the front yard? Perhaps a Subaru Outback?

    Early Christmas Present

Wonderful Christmas present: the stomach flu! Right now Andrew is on the mend. Camille and Anne had it earlier this week. Who knows when I will get it, but probably soon. Ugh. We were supposed to leave for RI today but that is now pushed back to tomorrow.

    Happy Birthday Drew

Today was Andrew’s first birthday. Hard to believe. We had a chocolate cake and ice cream for him, but he was just as happy eating his Cheerios. (Great! More for me, thought Daddy). Anne is no longer so easily fooled. Ahh, blissful ignorance of childhood innocence.

We invited over good friends of ours from church who have two little ones, the Hensley family. Lots of fun and many laughs. God has blessed us with many families with young children in our midst. Who would have thought in the academic bastion of Ithaca, NY? Certainly not I.

Greg will put up some more recent pictures of the family soon…we dare to hope…

    Incredible

Go see “The Incredibles”. It is worth the price of admission. The themes of family, identity, and heroism are well done.

    Wilson the Younger

As of Reformation Day I am now officially an elder in the Presbyterian Church in America. This is a large responsiblity and a great honor for me to have the congregation New Life Presbyterian here in Ithaca elect me and Christian Anible. Did you know that the Greek word translated to elder is “Presbyter”?
